About
Art and creative expression has been a cornerstone of my life. Through the years I have availed myself of art courses and improvement opportunities as art is an ever evolving lifetime learning experience. My family was supportive of my efforts. As a child I frequently received art materials for holidays from them and followed Jon Nagy on television. My outlook as an artist was greatly enhanced by correspondence studies with the Famous Artist's School in Westport Connecticut when I was in high school. I enjoyed art classes in college, particularly art history and photography at Oakland University. One of my college highlights was a class at Oxford University on British portraiture. The Equine Academy in Lexington, Kentucky offered learning opportunities around one of my favorite topics, horses. Because I am often outside and have had a variety of experiences with them, painting animals is one area I've really developed as an artist. After a spring trip to the Appalachians, I zeroed in on painting wildflowers. Though I frequently paint pictures from my travels, during the Covid Days, I have become a devotee of Plein Air or outside painting. Professional Artists I have studied with include Charles Pompilius, Elin Pendleton Thomas, and Brian Rubenacker, as well as equine artists Christine Cancelli and James Crow. I sketch wherever I go and my paint brushes are always at the ready.
